Failed connecting to WiFi

I placed it a few inches away from my WiFi router, and made sure my Laptop and Mobile phone were at least many feet away. Still no love. It's still flashing green. Looking at my earlier post, I figured I was missing a few dependencies. I have since managed to clean up all of my installation, and can confirm that everything described in this thread How to install the spark toolchain in Ubuntu 14.04 - Getting Started - Particle has been tried, but still unable to connect.

So, in short :

I'm unable to connect to the Core via the Android App. I do a factory reset so it's in listening mode (flashing Blue). Android app detects my SSID, and when I enter PW, the LED on the Spark core turns flashing Green. After a while, the App says - No Cores Found. Try again.

I do a factory reset again, and make sure Spark is in listening mode - flashing blue. I'm able to use the Spark CLI "spark setup" and set up my SSID, Security and PW. CLI response is :

Thanks! Wait about 7 seconds while I save those credentials...

Serial said: Awesome. Now we'll connect!

If you see a pulsing cyan light, your Spark Core
has connected to the Cloud and is ready to go!
If your LED flashes red or you encounter any other problems,
visit https://www.spark.io/support to debug.
Spark <3 you!
Done! Your core should now restart.
Please wait until your core is breathing cyan and then press ENTER

but it continues to flash Green.

Is it possible for one of you folks to do a Google Hangout with me ? I can share and show you what's going on.

Flashing green is an issue which has occurred a couple of times and the steps mentioned above are what we run through to fix it.

The last resort is to have the core exchanged.

@Teke should be able to see if a hangout is possible.

Iā€™ll wait for @Teke to confirm about the Hangout. Itā€™ll be better to try and resolve this if possible without having to get the core exchanged.

Hi there, @Anool_WyoLum - I donā€™t think we can make a hangout happen, but one of our engineers will be in touch shortly to discuss options and do some additional troubleshooting. Hang in there!!

okay, standing by.

Meanwhile, I have one query - how do I confirm if the external antenna I have connected works or not ?
This one :

I did a basic continuity test using my multimeter to make sure there isnā€™t a short / open.

UPDATE :
The Spark Core works on my WiFi network at home.
I now need to figure out the difference in the WiFi settings between home and office.
The only obvious one I found was
802.11ng at home and 802.11b/g at work
Ch 1 at home and Ch 6 at work

Iā€™ll report more later

Hi @Anool_WyoLum,

Often work wifi networks will have in place strict MAC address filtering, or blocking of some outgoing TCP ports, your IT dept should be able to help get those working for your Core. If theyā€™re using certificate based enterprise wifi encryption then thatā€™s something the CC3000 canā€™t support as is.

Thanks!
David

Hi,

I just received my spark core with built in wifi chip.

No matter what I did I could not get it to connect to various wifi networks. I tried with and without passwords, changing channels, resets etc. and following all advice and support I could find on the forum etc.

I decided to run the patch cc3000 and put the thing in DFU mode. I did this unsing Ubuntu and after downloading all the various tools etc.

I ran the patch, and it started flashing purple. I waited, and waited and waited. Nothing told me anywhere how long I was supposed to wait. After about half an hour I decided it wasnā€™t patching and reset the device. I got a white pulse.

Iā€™ve since tried reflashing with the core firmware eg:-

touchy-pc build # /root/spark/dfu-util/src/dfu-util -d 1d50:607f -a 0 -s 0x08005000:leave -D core-firmware.bin
dfu-util 0.7

Now no matter what I do, I cannot get the thing to stop pulsing white, so Iā€™m worried Iā€™ve interrupted the patching and done somethin irreversable.

Iā€™ve tried various resets and additional attempts at firmware reinstall (including this:-

dfu-util -d 1d50:607f -a 1 -s 0x00020000:leave -D core-firmware.bin

which seemed to go through happily enough without error)

I still can now only get pulsing white light or back into DFU mode.

Can anyone suggest anything please!? Thanks.

Can you perform a factory reset and let us know the RGB light status?

Hi,
Unfortunately it flashes yellow, then off, then white, then rapid white and ends up still with pulsing white.

The chip gets pretty hot too after a while but I presume thatā€™s normal?

J

Hot but not tooo hot is fine!

It sounds like your CC3000 isnā€™t responding correctly.

You can contact the :spark: team at hello@spark.io as instructed here:

http://docs.spark.io/troubleshooting/#troubleshoot-by-color-pulsing-white

Where do you happen in live in? USA?

@will, maybe an RMA coming your way?

iā€™m in the UK, thanks, Iā€™ll email the team.

@jellifish about to dig into tech support emails nowā€“you should hear from me/us shortly!

Hi @jellifish,

A hot core can indicate a bad power supply / cable, make sure you try switching cables / power supplies as well.

Thanks!

Oā€™h Why did I fiddle

Summary - I have been using my Spark for a few weeks and without problems.
Set it up originally with the IOS App. Connected straight away.
I needed to change my SSID as it was very similar as used by my neighbours and quite long.

Once I had made the change to the SSID (9 digits long - Alpha characters and numbers only)
I tried to connect again and all I could get was Green blinking.

Setup:
Computer iMac OS X 10.9.2
iPhone 5S
Modem - Virgin Media SuperHub
Router - Apple Extreme ~ 4 years old.
Channel set to 7
Security WPA / WPA2 Personal (Have change to Unsecured as well)
Mode 802.11a - 802.11b/g
Based in the UK.
Spark powered by USB port and separate power supply.

Started on my quest - using the Troubleshooting guide

Still could not use my IOS App to connect - Tried moving my setup inches away from my router as well.
Setup spark to be Blue Blinking.
Entered credentials
Spark entered solid Blue for a few seconds -> Blinking green
Left until IOS App timed out.

Tried setting up using USB

Still no Joy with spark setup wifi
Setup spark to be Blue Blinking.
Run spark setup wifi from terminal
Entered credentials
Got response from terminal -> Serial said: Awesome. Now we'll connect!
Spark entered solid Blue for a few seconds -> Blinking green

Tried the CC3000 Patch

Setup spark to be Blue Blinking.
Tried again using the CLI to connect same as before.

Reading through more posts - I got he impression that their could be a more up to date patch

Noticed that the size was different - so I assume that it was a different patch.
This time I did not have to push the mode key for 1 sec - It appeared to install and then went to Blinking Magenta.
I think it then went to Blinking Green.

I have run out of ideas and would really appreciate any assistance.

Best wishes.

James

  1. Was SSID the only thing changed?

Try this guide

Thank you. That was what I was working to. I think I followed all your instructions

Best wishes.

James.

What SSID did you changed to?

  1. Perform a factory reset

  2. Set-up a Wifi hotspot using your phone. Preferably WPA

  3. Use a Serial terminal to send the credentials (triple check them)

Thank you.

I changed it to Apple

I canā€™t see a away of choosing WPA?

Set up Hotspot on my iPhone - Checked it was working by connecting my macbook.
You can actually see something connecting to the hotspot from within the iphone.

I tried using Spark setup wifi from my mac terminal also tried Coolterm.

No joy. I did notice that when I connect to one of the terminals above the light goes out - when I finished entering my credentials it then changes to solid blue, but then goes back to flashing green.

Canā€™t see it connecting through my iPhone either.

Triple checked the credentials.
tried both security options in the terminal WPA=2 & WPA2=3

Best wishes.

James.

haha! spookyā€¦

Chip antenna i guessā€¦ My best bet is to factory reset, send the credentials and let it sit for a while.

Do you happen to use the Apple router? Whatā€™s that called anyway :stuck_out_tongue: they have a 5GHz mode and maybe your router has it too which explains the issue.

The other day, i made the same mistake too
