Try to claim a new Photon besides an already claimed Spark Core

Hi,

In the past I have already claimed a Spark Core and I am using this core in a project. Now I’m trying to activate a Photon (new device). BTW: Introducing a new Brand name and a new device and the name core is confusing. I installed a new Node.js software and a new USB driver.

It seems the USB does communicate because the device response at commands and sets itself in modes. However claiming the device by WIFI/iPhone app and USB CLI is failing

I have next conversation in the CLI:

However the device number is the number of my Spark Core.

  • So, what is CLI detecting?
  • Does it read my device or does it read some ini file?
  • How can I claim my new core?

Regards, Marcel

You can use particle setup to claim the core in Listening mode (blinking blue)

Thanks for your reply Kenneth.

And then it keeps trying … I waited for more than 30 minutes and it is still not ready.

The color is Ok, the response is Ok but claiming Not.

@Marcel is the Core breathing cyan?

Place it in Listening mode, use particle serial identify and get the device id.

Hit the reset button and wait for the core to be in breathing cyan mode.

Do a particle device add PASTE_DEVICE_ID_HERE and see if it claims properly

If I check this device number with my already claimed Spark Core than is that correct. It tells me that the new photon has the same device number as my Spark Core. Where does it get the device number from, from the device or from an settings file?

It comes from the device which is a hardware id.

It’s not a Photon. The device detected by the CLI is a core.

I’m confused. You are trying to setup a new Photon right? Why are you plugging in a core?

You can try repeating the same process i mentioned in the last post and get the Photon claimed to your device then you are good to go.

The device I’ve unpacked is a Photon. I’m not plugging in a Spark Core. So I’m confused too. Why comes the Photon device up with my Spark Core device. I do not know.

Try out the steps and see if you managed to claim the Photon.

Steps:

Place it in Listening mode, use particle serial identify and get the device id.

Hit the reset button and wait for the core to be in breathing cyan mode.

Do a particle device add PASTE_DEVICE_ID_HERE and see if it claims properly

I see what the problem is. I got a Phonton package but it contained a Spark Core.

It is a Spark Core. The guy who sent it to me has still ownship. He wanted to send me a Photon but he mixed things up.

Thanks Kenneth for your time.

A Photon looks like this:

Kenneth, I see that I got a Spark Core and not a Photon. As I said the guy who send me the device put a Spark Core in a Photon box. :grinning:

I tried to claim it and I send him an ownership change.

Sure

Kenneth, got the device transfer and updated the firmware. Thanks for your DFU and update information.
