Can't Get past "Update your Particle device" w/ web setup

I just got a Boron 402 and I'm trying to set it up via https://setup.particle.io/ but I keep getting stuck at each step and I'm currently stuck at " Update your Particle device" but I'm fairly certain it is updated (based on CLI info).

It keeps saying that it lost connection with the device and when I go to retry it clearly wants the Boron to be in DFU mode but I can't get it in that mode now.

The status LED is blinking green and I understand it is trying to connect but
a) it hasn't after 10 hours
b) I can't force it into DFU mode

On Particle Console | Build your connected product, I've imported the ICCID but it is taking forever to update; I know it can take up to 24 hours, so tomorrow I'll check back on that.

Am I just stuck until the SIM updates and the device connects? I haven't found a good document that explains what I should be expecting and what to do when your path deviates.

Edit (110524): So I was able to get the device into DFU mode again thanks to an old YouTube video I found. I also got the mobile app working on my mac and I think it is clear that there's something with my SIM card as it will not activate the SIM after numerous tries (just like the console UI).

I guess I'll wait until tomorrow and see if the SIM eventually activates, otherwise, I'll figure out something else.

Edit (110624): Pretty much have everything working as expected. It was a bit of a doozy to get there and I can't find a single document that even comes close to my experience.

When I went to bed last night here's where I was at:

  • After the debug firmware, I used particle update to flash the latest firmware
  • I walked away for maybe 10 mins and when I came back the LED was breathing blue
  • I tried walking through https://setup.particle.io/ again but no progress there
  • I looked at the web console, nothing there either
  • I registered the device via the CLI and it now appears in my account
  • Current status says it is Activating SIM
  • I was able to push some of the test firmware to the device.

As of this morning, the SIM is active and everything is effectively working.

If you look in console.particle.io in either the SIM cards tab at the top level, or in the SIM cards tab inside the product that was created during setup, you'll see the SIM status. The Boron 402 in particular can take a long time to activate. If it doesn't activate in a day, we'll need the ICCID to investigate.

Thank you. It seems to have gone active sometime overnight. It was weird because the board started functioning all of a sudden last night but the SIM still showed as "Updating" so I was confused as to what was going on.

I'll update my post to explain to others what I did/saw.
