I’m trying to reactivate two Borons which have been sitting on the shelf for ~2 years (previously running OS 2.0.0). I’ve reactivated both SIMs in the Console and performed a factory reset on each device, but when I try to add the devices via the mobile app they power off unexpectedly. The initial pairing process goes fine – the shutdown occurs when they are trying to connect to cellular. Any advice on this?
Which Boron model? The Boron 2G/3G cannot be powered by USB alone and requires the LiPo battery because it uses too much power during connection and it will brown out and reset.
The mobile app is no longer supported; you should use setup.particle.io but that’s probably unrelated.
Hi,
Thanks for the response. The model is BRN404. I should’ve mentioned that I also tried setting up via the website but got a similar outcome.
I would use the Web device doctor firmware which can produce a log of where the device is failing.
However, the web-based log may not be sufficient in your case because the web-based log is delayed compared to the normal USB serial log. You may need to use the Particle CLI particle serial monitor command or other serial terminal instead.
It's also most likely power-related, so if you have a 2A micro USB tablet charger you might want to try that, but of course you won't be able to get log that way, but it's a good data point.
Hi - I tried using a 5V Li ion battery in lieu of the wall outlet and it worked! Thanks for your help.
