Extending 3G range

I would like to use the Electron in some rural applications in which I feel the 3G signal may be weak. Any ideas on a good antenna that will help with this? The antennas sold by particle.io appear to be for wifi

Hi @terrymccafferty
If the signal is really weak, you should work with an Yagi type or a panel (see poynting antennas, for example) directional antenna for the needed frequency. For a quick view, see here

Change carriers? In the US, Verizon Wireless has by far the best 3G/4G coverage.

Yagi antennas are normally band-specific and in the US we have 700MHz (4G), 1900MHz and for newest 4G, other bands.

The first thing I’d do is get a U.FL to SMA adapter cable. There are lots of cell antennas with SMA connectors and it’s much easier to swap them out to try different ones with the SMA connector.

I’m in area with a very weak signal that made the Electron unusable. I used a U.fl/IPEX to SMA adapter and connected it to 7DBi Magnet Antenna Gain 4G LTE CPRS GSM 2.4 WCDMA 3G. works fantastic now. Long extension allows you to place the antenna in an ideal location. both on Amazon.
