Electron with Verizon Sim Card

My Electron has already been set up with a particle sim card. I am trying to switch to a verizon sim card and have been following the instructions on support.io. Step 1 is to just slide the sim card in and wait for it to connect to the internet (breathe cyan). I’ve literally done just that and my particle is still blinking green (looking for an internet connection).

Can someone help me figure out what’s going on?

I even used the verizon apn name : vzwinternet, and flashed the default tinker firmware (from support.io). It’s still flashing green despite reset.

PS. I already ran particle doctor - no change in status.

Much appreciate the help!

if i remember correctly you have to set up the APN for verizon.

Isn't it https://setup.particle.io ?

Also try depowering the Electron. Reset will not clear the radio module.

Pretty sure this won’t work, because the electron is GSM/WCDMA, but Verizon’s network is CDMA/LTE.

a couple weeks back i was setting up to use another provider and i seem to remember that i had to get a new firmware that had the carrier APN and flash the new firmware. particle has a webpage that will take your new APN and generate a new firmware. having said all that , you are probably right about verizon not working.

Yes, I followed the instructions on https://setup.particle.io. I used vzwinternet as the apn name and downloaded the “new” firmware. I flashed (by depowering instead of reset) the Electron with this firmware and yet am not able to connect to the internet with my Verizon sim.

Hi @archr

As @hfiennes said above, I don’t think this can ever work since Verizon uses a different cellular standard than the GSM/WCDMA cellular standard used in the Electron. This is similar to how many older phones could work on Verizon or AT&T but not both.

Ok. I will switch to a GSM compatible carrier and give it a try. Thanks everyone
