For the last year or more our BRN404 and BRN404X devices have been running the same firmware and Device OS 4.1.0 without issue. We have some firmware updates to write and I noticed that Device OS is up to 6.1.1 GA. But I also see that 4.2.0 is the LTS choice for Borons. Is there a specific upgrade level higher than 4.2.0 that we should be taking a closer look at?
You can stay at 4.2.0 for now, or upgrade.
What will happen in the future is that the even (LTS) and odd (developer preview) major version numbers will no longer be used.
Instead, certain versions will be declared LTS. So this could be 6.2.0, 6.3.0, or some other version that has been proven stable, and that will be the LTS version.
There will not be a separate 7.0.0 release line for development, instead some 6.x releases will contain new features and you can use them, or hold back for a LTS release.
This is being done because there aren't many new features being added now that could destabilize older devices, and the developer preview release model does not work well for new hardware, which would be released as a developer preview and wouldn't have an LTS release for many months.
