Update to 0.7.0 goes wrong

Thanks. However I was just thinking. The problem is of course the OTA update from 0.6.3 to a higher version. Devices in the field would keep hanging.

It just updated a Photon from 0.6.3 with particle update to version 1.0.0 successfully.

What would these binaries actually prove then? Because local update works already. The problem is in the OTA updates. So we could only test this when this RC is available in the only IDE.

Or do I overlook something?

Before you mentioned you were using an n-only mode router.

So if you are operating an n-only mode router, then once you get the system part that contains the new Wi-Fi code from OTA updating from 0.6.3 to 0.7.0 ~ 1.1.0-rc.1 and the device reboots, it would blink green and not connect. In theory you should be able to OTA update from 0.6.3 to 1.1.0-rc.2 when it's out and it would work fine on an n-only router.

If local update to 1.0.0 ~ 1.1.0-rc.1 already works for you, then you likely are not using an n-only mode router, and I don't know what your issue would be with OTA updating. If these things are indeed the case for you, I would love to take this to DM and work with you directly to monitor your OTA update process at a particular time and day.

You can also OTA update these test binaries with the CLI if you want, just by using the command particle flash <device_name> system-part1.bin and then particle flash <device_name> system-part2.bin, but from the sound of it that might not be any more useful than OTA updating to 1.0.1. Of course I would like you to try it though  and let us know the results.

I was pretty surprised that I had Cloud connection directly  I thought I didn’t change my router settings, but I need to check. I forgot if I could go online with 0.7.0 after I updated it offline.

Ok, probably my range extender didn’t had n-only mode. I unplugged it, and tested again. Indeed 0.7.0 couldn’t connect to WiFi n-only, after updating it to 1.01RC1 it worked directly.

I’ve tested also with another Photon on 0.7.0 and the same story, after updating it connects directly.

Thanks for fixing this.
