Hi
I have updated my tachyon to current state of ubuntu-24.04 RoW desktop version ie v 1.1.35.
Exact archive is tachyon-ubuntu-24.04-RoW-desktop-1.1.35.zip. Just before, I tried v 1.1.32
Global feeling is both versions are much more robust than initial beta release of ubuntu-24.04. Good work !
However, there are still some issues very visible that I would like to report here. Probably some of them are already known …
1/ Plenty of crashes when trying to go to settings. report is about /etc/apt/sources.list.d/particle.list being malformed
- This was not happening with version 1.1.32
- Easy to fix. Line 2 of that file needs to be removed as it obviously the issue
2/ Wifi connectivity is a bit .. messy
-
it is better than with 1.1.32 as it is stable. 1.1.32 was constantly disconnecting. But like 1.1.32, wifi on 1.1.35 is incredibly slow: 02.Mb/s. With ubuntu 20, I got at least 200Mb/s so it is not a hardware issue or a wifi issue (same network, same place)
-
strangely, I get a very limited set of wifi networks available. With ubuntu 20, I see 10+ networks around me. with ubuntu 24, I see only 3 networks (including mine). I have tried to scan multiple times, same result.
-
led is glowing green, so officially it is connected but not on particle cloud
-
using particle console page, I can see the device is online ! This is confirmed if I trigger the rainbow: device is connected to particle cloud. So led status is not reflecting the real connectivity status
-
trying to opening a remote shell from particle console always fail. I guess this is because wifi is too slow and timeout
3/ Very annoying issue: I am french so I use a french keyboard.
-
The Ux to change keyboard does not propose anything
-
with 1.1.32 it was possible to set the keyboard layout to french (AZERTY) doing
sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configurationand restart
-
with 1.1.35, this has no impact. Maybe there is a better way to change keyboard layout ?
So globally, If I try to use the desktop, I have a keyboard issue. If to avoid that, I use remote shell, I have a wifi issue. Ubuntu 24.04 1.1.35 is not very usable in that state ![]()
Hoping it helps and eager to get next iteration..
Obviously, no issue to provide any kind of log, trace or do any experiment …
Thx for any advice !!
