RF Keepout Zone

I have been using the spark-core in a couple small personal projects. I noticed that including components/shielding near the chip-antenna seriously affected the measured signal strength produced by the chip.

Is there a recommended “keep out” zone near the chip-antenna?
Is there a spec for the chip antenna somewhere handy?

Thanks!

That’s a great question! I think @mohit or @AndyW would be able to answer that, I know there is some EE magic when it comes to the RF components / antenna area.

Thanks!

I would recommend keeping all other components/traces/groundplanes/boxes/wires at least 1cm away from the chip antenna, in all directions. More whenever you can afford it.

The datasheet is in github along with the rest of the hardware design.

Thank you!

Much thanks! All of this is consistent with my measurements.
