I have a Monitor One that I purchased year+ ago for a work project that got stalled. Since that time the Device/SIM has been deactivated. I not sure how to reactivate it; I tried treating it as a new device and setting up via USB but it keeps failing. I also used device restore but with no joy - now it seems to have gone into SOS mode!
If you are keeping the device on the same account email, you don't need to restore it. Just log into https://console.particle.io and reactivate the SIM.
USB device restore cannot be used on Tracker-based devices, but a bug prevented the warning message from appearing. That bug has been fixed. Your device most likely is going into SOS because it's a Monitor One with either Tracker One or invalid firmware on it; the Particle CLI or setup.particle.io should be able to get it out of this state. [Edit: USB device restore now works properly with the Tracker One and Monitor One.]
If you are moving it to a different email, then it needs to be released by the old owner before you can set it up under your email.
I looked to reactivate the SIM but could not find it in the console.
I did manage to retore the Monitor One using USB device restore, I think the first time I used it I had left it as Tracker (default) instead of Monitor One. It took a few attempts and had to power it down completely, reboot by computer but it worked - got rid of the SOS.
Then I treated it as a new device in setup.particle.io, it recognized previous name, account etc. It updated the the firmware and default software and informed me it may take up to 24hours for the SIM to activate. I looked this morning in the console and it is no longer listed as deactivated.
Will power up when I get home and see if all is well.
in hindsight I should have just gone through setup.particle.io route instead of screwing around with the restore - I got confused when I could find a way to reactivate the SIM.
As always, thanks for the response, this is such a helpful community.
