Hi,
one of my particle devices isn’t connecting to the network anymore. After switching it on, it just starts blinking green fast (about twice a second) and is getting hot. When trying to get it to setup mode (pressing “setup” for more than three seconds) it once blinks blue and then continues blinking green. You can get it to dfu mode, but after flashing the tinker firmware it will not work anyways. Since this device worked before in my light installation i think it is gone to meet its maker? Or is there any chance to get it working again?
kind regards,
Christoph
@happenpappen, how are you powering the Photon?
@peekay123 Currently via the USB port of my laptop.
@happenpappen, the fact that the Photon is getting hot suggests that the onboard switching regulator may be damaged. This can occur when the power provided to it has ripple and is poorly regulated. The quality of the USB cable also has an impact.
If you have a multimeter, measure the 3V3 pin voltage and if it isn’t a nice clean 3.3v, that is your problem. You can always power the Photon with a good 3.3v source directly to the 3V3 pin.
I should have been more precise in my last answer: Before the device was showing the error i had it attached via VIN/GND to an external 5V powersupply. Now that i’m investigating the issue i connected it via USB to my laptop. If the cause of the defect is the powersupply being poorly regulated, is there a circuit i could put between the supply and a (new) Photon device? Would something like this:

be required or are there more simple ways to achieve this?
