Hi,
I recently purchased two P2 controllers for a project (one as a spare) and have been experiencing issues connecting to the internet.
The first particle was working fine, but then stopped connecting to the particle cloud. I tried to factory reset the device, remove the device from my sandbox and re-activate. However, every time I get this error:
The P2 also gets quite hot to the touch (does not seem normal), however works correctly through USB.
I’ve been using my spare P2 successfully meanwhile.
Any thoughts?
To be clear, you're using the Photon 2 (module with pins on the bottom), not the P2 on your own custom base board.
Is the Photon 2 loose, in a breadboard, or in a custom circuit? If loose, did you remove it from the foam?
It should never be hot.
What is the status LED doing when you get that error? It should be blinking yellow, then green, then cyan, and finally breathing cyan. Since you got that error, presumably it did not get all of the way to breathing cyan.
Hi Rickkas,
Yes I am using the Particle Photon 2 mounted to a custom PCB through the 2.54mm header pins.
It is getting hot which makes me think the unit is defective.
If I flash both controllers via USB with the configuration:
// Let Device OS manage the connection to the Particle Cloud
SYSTEM_MODE(AUTOMATIC);
// Run the application and system concurrently in separate threads
SYSTEM_THREAD(ENABLED);
Then the functioning unit will blink green then cyan to connect to wifi and cloud but the defective will continue to blink dark blue (listening mode).
I have tried to factory reset the defective unit but continue to get the error message in the screenshot during set up, even after removing the device from my sandbox.
If it's hot, it's probably a hardware failure.
If it's stuck in listening mode, it has nothing to do with the cloud-side configuration and claiming. It's probably that it doesn't have Wi-Fi credentials. You could try setting them using the Particle CLI and the device connected by USB.
particle serial wifi
Or use the web-based configure Wi-Fi tool, also with the device connected by USB.
The photon 2 would get hot as long as I remember using it. How could I go about getting a warranty replacement?
I still experience problems with WiFi on this device, as the webtool displays errors as shown in the screenshot. If I use the CLI tool using "particle serial wifi", the photon 2 goes into the blinking green "searching mode" but does not connect to wifi or the cloud successfully. Note that the external antenna is also attached.
Thanks
@Support I would like support for a warranty claim regarding a Photon 2.
You should use the support portal to generate a ticket, which could involve an RMA or refund depending on the circumstances.
