GSM antenna too weak?

Got my electron and took a looong time and lot of restarts to get it breathe cyan and register the device.
Finally, the issue seems to be weak cellular reception. I have to hold the PCB antenna in my hand to get it to breathe cyan. Falls back to blinking cyan(slow and fast) if it’s not held. Points to a poor reception issue.
I’m positive that the cell reception in the area is good. Moving around the unit or keeping it outside doesn’t seem to change the behavior.
What’s the best way to “strengthen” the antenna.
Soldering extra wire to the antenna PCB?
Any suggestions welcome.

I use this type of antenna.

It works perfectly without any problem.
Most probably also these are good.

I’m no antenna expert, so forgive my ignorance please

The Duck Antenna in the particle store is specified at 2400~2500MHz , while the one you’ve mentioned appears to be 824MHz~960MHz /1710MHz~1990MHz.

Those don’t even overlap if I understand correctly, how is it that they both work?

The antennas in the Particle store are for Wi-Fi (Photon/Core), not 2G/3G (Electron). There was talk about adding antenna options for the Electron to the store, but they have not been added yet.

So just to be crystal clear, this antenna will work for a 3G Electron?

Hello,
I posted that link because I could not find it from Aliexpress.
I have earlier purchased from Aliexpress two years ago. Now I found the link from the same vendor.
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/GSM-GPRS-ATENNA-GA1/709337_519759188.html
It is a model GA4, there are two sub-models for frequencies 850/900/1800/1900 MHz or 900/1800 MHz.
I have him for 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and works great for Electron 2G. I think it was the same model with that of Itead.

Yes, i have a 2g module.did anybody else have issues with the “stock” pcb antenna?

I fixed the issue by removing antenna from an old gsm phone and connecting it to pcb antenna.works well now.still interested in finding out if others had similar problems.

I have a problem like the connection is reset several times during 24 hours. Otherwise works well globally.
With the other antenna which I have are already working 72 hours without any problem.
