Failing in Particle Setup running in Win 10 over USB

Hi all, first post.

I am a professional developer for many years. Also an electrical engineer.
So I was thrilled to get my particle yesterday.
Great looking instruction, walked thru all of the steps to connect it via wifi, no luck with either android or ios phone. Ok, onto to direct connection via USB. Installed node.js and npm. Installed the particle CLI, and the windows driver.

Go to
C:\Users\Dev\AppData\Roaming\npm\node_modules\particle>particle setup

I am not a js dev, any clues to what this error means? I can’t find any other references to it on the net.

Hey there, welcome to the community!

Sorry to hear you’ve gotten to a rough start with your Photon.
The error you’re seeing is one I haven’t yet encountered, so I’m not sure if I can be of much assistance. That said, you can try following this tutorial, albeit with newer versions: Tutorial: Particle-cli on Windows [07 Jun 2015] I’ll also pass the error along to those that should know

Alternatively, for the time being, you should be able to enter the credentials over Serial as well. If you’ve got putty, you should be able to connect to the board while it’s in listening mode. Then, press ‘w’ to connect. (don’t hold me on that ‘w’, it’s been a while since I’ve used that :speak_no_evil:).

Give it a shot and let us know if that worked out.

Indeed I have putty, but I have never used it with a serial device before.
Is there a username and password I need to use with it?
Giving it a try now. “w” is correct.
