Electron 3D Model

I wanted to be able to design enclosures for the Electron, so I made a rough 3D model with components I found online and others I made from scratch. It is a work in progress, but I am happy to share the files to collaborate with others and make a complete version.

I put the file on Github, but happy to move it to a better place: https://github.com/alan707/3Dmodels

Here are some pics:

Thanks @squeakywheel! Github is a good place to put it. Looks great.

thanks @clarissa, it still needs a more detailed version of the JST connector for the LiPo battery and the underside is pretty bare right now. I will keep updating it and post the progress.

Outstanding Job!

I will upload a 3D case I am working on as open source. I use your design as reference!

Just stumbling on this now! Looks fantastic!

Thanks @frlobo and @will. I actually have an updated model with the correct JST connector. I’ve updated the repo with the right file so the height is more representative :grinning:

Anyone else use OnShape? Imported your excellent model here, will attempt to keep it updated:

Looking great!
Is it possible to get the model in another format?

It would like to use this model in KiCAD which only supports .wrl (VRML) files.
I know that models for KiCAD can be created in FreeCAD, which supports these formats:

  • STEP, IGES, OBJ, STL, DXF, SVG, STL, DAE, IFC or OFF, NASTRAN, VRML

It is possible for you to export into any of these formats?

Regards,
Thomas

I’ve uploaded an IGES version to Github: https://github.com/alan707/3Dmodels

Thanks!

I can open the file in FreeCAD but getting it into KiCAD is not as easy as I hoped it would be.
Someone has created a Sketchup file at https://github.com/spark/hardware-libraries#3d-cad-models, but I got the same result.

This is awesome! @BDub @mohit @dick cc’ing you in case you haven’t seen this already

Would love to hear any feedback on the model. I run a prototyping shop, so very comfortable with iterations
