Does the Photon replace the Adafruit Feather HUZZAH ESP8266 for Arduino?

Hi, I currently own an Arduino and want to purchase the Photon. I just have a quick question before I purchase it. Does the Photon replace the “Adafruit Feather HUZZAH with ESP8266 WiFi” which basically gives the Arduino wifi capability? If so then will the bellow project work directly on the Photon without the Adafruit HUZZAH?

The instructions for the project that I am trying to make can be found here: http://www.instructables.com/id/YouTube-Subscriber-Counter-With-ESP8266/

Thank You so much for your time

Hello @Mahdi1 and welcome to Particle!

You could easily adapt the project you linked to work with a photon, but keep in mind that a Photon is not a direct replacement for the ESP8266, it is a superior platform with a helpful community.

I am certain that the project would work directly on the Photon without the Adafruit HUZZAH. You may have to use a different digit display as the one in the project is specifically designed as a Adafruit Feather Shield.
