Ubuntu 20.04 Update: Tachyon 1.0.180

Hey all,

TACHYON 20.04 NOW WORKS WITHOUT A BATTERY!!!!

Hallelujah and all praise to the developers (specifically Eugene) for fighting and fighting and taking a break and then fighting some more to get the super complex internals of the QCOM processor (ADSP) to work with and without battery support in the same build.

24.04 is also updated accordingly (see the post for 1.1.32 with the info in it)

This is combined in these release notes for Tachyon 20.04 1.0.180 build below.

(Full release notes here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Xk5Ux010L-H5oeXaZNOWwgI5RSpTsmAz/view?usp=sharing)

Power & System

  • No battery required - Tachyon can now run fully powered via USB-C… HURRAY!
  • Battery mode still supported (1-cell, 3-cell, and 4-cell configurations) if plugged in

(note that other features from previous builds include support for Rasberry Pi Display Touch 2 DSI display which is built in, bug fixes for the HDMI not working all the time, more drivers turned on etc...)

To install, check the full release notes above. We'll update the particle cli installer tomorrow.

Happy holidays to everyone, especially our battery friends who can take a long deserved rest. Also, we really appreciate you all keeping this plugged in all this time.

Peace,

Particle.

After upgrading to .180, I’m seeing issues connecting to the Particle Cloud. It works initially (with no battery… hurray!) and connects via cellular, but after rebooting, it does not connect, and the particled process continues to run at ~100% CPU. If I reinstall, it successfully connects again until I reboot.

As a note, I also tried 24.04 1.1.35, and it connects fine after reboot, but of course, it is using wi-fi since cellular isn’t working yet. I’m suspecting there is something going on with cellular in .180…
