Will LTE M1 be the only version of Tracker One released in North america? I live in Saskatchewan and there is absolutely no LTE M1 coverage in this province. As such, any Tracker One device travelling across Canada would lose connection in Saskatchewan.
Will there be a 3G version of the tracker that will work in North America?
The T402 (North America) only supports LTE Cat M1 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The carriers are the same as the Boron LTE, E Series LTE, etc., Rogers, Telus, and Bell in Canada.
The T523 (EMEAA LTE Cat 1) cannot be used in the Americas because the Quectel EG91 modem supports a different set of frequencies.
It is possible that a future version of the Tracker SoM will have a LTE Cat 1 Americas modem on it, which would be useful in areas without LTE Cat M1 and in Central and South America.
Thank you for the response. Could you also tell me if Particle will continue to produce the Boron 2G/3G for the foreseeable future? I know some telcos are planning to sunset 3G technology and I need to know if there is a date when I will no longer be able to purchase the Boron 2G/3G.
The Boron 2G/3G will continue to be sold. While we recommend the Boron LTE Cat M1 in the United States, the 2G/3G model is still the recommended model outside of North America and thus does not have an end-of-life date at this time.
