SSD1306 on electron - compile error

This is a known issue of the sample that also hits on Photon.

Just remove the custom implementation of random() in the sample.

Adafruit SSD1306 [SOLVED]

The Adafruit_SSD1306 library that can be found in Particle Build (Web IDE) does work for the display coming with the kit.
