Serial read through mobile phone

Hi All,

Has anyone tried to do a serial read from a mobile phone?
I have power up my photo trough the battery pack in the maker kit to VIN and GND so that the USB is free.
The USB is then connected to the phone.

Tried various apps with baud rate of 9600 but all state no device connected for some reason.

What does your code look like, and/or is the device in listening mode?

It surely is not the code, as connected to the PC it works fine.
Im only trying to view to output by the code. So the device is running in normal state.

Could it be that the photon only serial writes when powered through the same source (USB)?

Here's my experience attempting OTG serial with Android:

I've yet to try other apps to get this operational.
