Non-sparkdevices running sparkdevices code?

@korneel It definitely is a go, but it’s not top priority for our team right now; first we need to make sure the Spark Cores are in our customers’ hands and working as expected before we can move on to porting to other hardware.

We have built our communications library to be portable - it’s a stand-alone library - and so it’s ready to be ported to an Arduino with an Ethernet shield. Would you be up for taking on that project?

@zach well, i’d certainly be up for the challenge although my knowledge of programming is fairly basic. I am excellent in ripping other libraries though :wink:

@zach , my offer still stands if you’re interested :smile:

@korneel the firmware libraries are now available on Github:

If you want to take a stab at porting to Arduino, we’d love to see it!

HI Zach;

unfortunately, that is beyond my capabilities i’m afraid… i’m very much hoping that someone else will take this up…

@zach I’m so glad you guys are going to allow other Arduino devices to “enter your cloud”. I’ll definitely pay a fee to have that ability. You guys have put so much work into making an awesome device and ecosystem. I’m just glad my current Arduino devises won’t be 100% useless as I change over to a Spark based ecosystem.

@shocku992 Awesome, thanks for the feedback!

@zach;
since porting firmware is way beyond my capabilities, is that something the spark core team might be picking up? maybe even releasing this as a library for arduino?

Hi @korneel - we’d love to see our libraries running on an Arduino, but our team’s got a lot of work to do over the next couple of months building out some of the features we have on our back-log for the Spark Core. Not to mention debugging and tech support :wink:

We’re really hoping that someone in the community will take the lead on this, because that way it’ll happen much faster than if we do it at Spark HQ.

@zach fully understood. the thing is, I think a lot of people will have existing arduino stuff and got interested in the spark core because of arduino… it would be great if you could keep your existing investment instead of throwing it out… so i would want to find someone who can build libraries out of this or something…

It’s a little out of my abilities as well @korneel. I wonder if someone on the Arduino forums might be able too help out. It would serve two purposes, to spread the awesomeness that is the Spark Core and maybe get some help with the porting.
