The LiPo batter that comes with the Electron. Is there a larger capacity available? Maybe twice as thick, but not any longer than the current battery.
The Particle Store does not sell any other batteries for the Electron. You might be able to find the battery that you need on Adafruit. https://www.adafruit.com/categories/574
Thanks! I’ll take a look at that one!
I have a related question. I just received a 3500 mAh battery, but it measures at 3.8V, not 3.7v. Can I connect it through the JST connector OR another port? Thank you!
3.7V is only the typical voltage, but in real life depending on state of charge you can consider voltages in the range of 3.2V (near empty) to 4.2V (fully charged) as normal.
Thanks for the reply! I’ll give it a go than!
Just need to change the JST connector on that new battery first…
Make sure to double check the polarity and the battery should have an internal protection against over-charge/-discharge.
In case anyone is curious, it worked.
Crimping the connectors was a hassle until I got a decent tool. Got 10 done in 30 min after that.
Did mix up the polarity the first time. Luckily, no sparks. Electron is fine and works perfectly with the 3.8V 3500 mAh lipo’s. Got 48hr of online check-ins and data downloads to the Electron every 30min without power safe mode in between.
@ScruffR, how do you check the polarity of the battery?
e.g. with a DMM
But normally the the wires are color coded (+red -black)
Just make sure to match that with the connector polarity.
