Thank you All. I like your suggestions of cautionary warnings, clear instructions and best practices regarding this connection. Also offering the u.FL - SMA adapter and antenna at a friendly price for your customers needing a more robust solution is considerably better then sending us to other retailers. Perhaps making a note on the product page would also be appreciated so customers understand upfront that they’ll need to order additional parts if they need a more robust connection. This would set expectations at time of purchase and allow the customer to order those parts at the same time so they don’t have to wait another week+ to get busy making a sweet enclosure with external antenna for their project.
I’m glad this sparked dialogue. Ultimately this will result in better service to your customers and hopefully less disappointment or frustration during initial setup.
I soldered some of my antennae too. If you’re going to connect/disconnect it a lot, you may want to consider purchasing an u.FL to SMA or FME adapter, with an accompanying antenna. u.FL connectors really aren’t meant to be disconnected
I have some TG 22.0222 (FME connector) antennae, works great and they’re firm and compact.
