Connecting to Photon via Ethernet

I read an earlier thread about the availability of an Ethernet Overlay shield for the Photon which is available here:

The product says on it webpage:

“Does Not Yet Support Communications to the Particle Cloud”

What does this mean? If this shield gets the Photon on the network, why can’t the cloud be reached?
