Adding Argon/Xenon devices not always shown on Android app

I have a new Argon and some Xenon devices (for mesh).

I am following the setup instructions as per setup.particle.io

Instruction says download app. On play.google store it informs me that app may not be fully compatible on my tablet device. I download anyway onto my Lenovo Tab 7 (Android Go).

I log into the app and I click on “Add device”

I am only offered 3 options here (proton, electron & core)… I am rather perplexed… where is Argon & Xenon.

So thinking that maybe Android 8 (Go) has something to do with it, I download the app onto an Amazon Fire 7 (sorry, I don’t do fancy tablets) which has an older OS and I got same message about app potentially may not be fully compatible on device.

Here too, I am only offered the 3 options.

I’m now left with my 3rd and final option. My old Samsung Android OS phone (Android 5.1). I had to delete some favourite apps just to do this :frowning:

This time no incompatible messages.

Now finally, I get to see the option for Argon and Xenon under add devices.

So ,what gives?

What is preventing me for using an Android tablet to add Argon/Xenon devices.

Thanks

The Gen3 setup process requires a fairly new BLE standard which is probably not supported by your tablets’ hardware (only BT 4.0) while your phone probably features a more recent BT hardware (knowing your exact phone type would help there).

However, you could also use CLI on your computer to claim the devices and create a mesh network.

Thanks for the reply. Tablets and phone all have Bluetooth 4.x. My phone is definitely the oldest member of my Android OS family.... Just to add that I can use Nordic's nRFconnect utility app and I can "see" the devices.

However, you could also use CLI on your computer to claim the devices and create a mesh network.

Ok, thanks for that tip. It would maybe help people, like me, if that tip was included in the web-browser tutorial that guides you through the setup process. Where do I find the link that explains the CLI tool.
