Sorry, this may have been covered. Can the Electron/Proton act as a a gateway? just ordered 4x Xenon and assumed can use my other particle devices for this…
Only a Argon, Boron, or Xenon + Ethernet adapter can be a gateway.

Have you had any progress on this front? What you are doing sounds like almost exactly my use case and thus any possibility of me purchasing a Particle. I have held off for quite some time due to uncertainty about offline communications, especially mesh.
edit: I’ll add that I am almost completely uninterested in cloud functionality, OTA updates would be a perk, but are not necessary, and that low power local distributed communication is the priority.
I gave up on Particle’s desire of centralizing a mesh network and charging out the nose for basic mesh features.
Look up “ESP32 LoRa 32” and “ESP32 LoRa mesh”. You’ll have to roll your own for a lot of things, but it’s not bad. It at least works for long periods with less effort than the Particle Mesh stuff!
I had my first 4 node mesh up and posting data online in under 4 hours. It’s been running in it’s final config for the last 3 months without a hiccup.
