Turn off wi-fi and attach RJ45 ethernet jack

Is there a way to wire up a RJ45 ethernet jack directly to a Spark Core and switch off wi-fi ?

Desire wired ethernet communication rather than wi-fi.

Anyone done this have code / instructions ?

Out of pure curiosity: why would you want to do that?

Three reasons. 1. Mostly to deliver power over ethernet, PoE, but also 2. Reliability of connection in crowded radio space 3. Security.

If anyone knows of cheap reliable Arduino like device that has a few pins (~10) for external connection that has an ethernet jack and well supported libraries and enough space for minimal network programming, would be interested
