Just wondering if anyone has been able to run the core at a slower clock speed 16 or 24MHz? I’m looking at battery operation and this can save about 20ma while operating.

Have not tried but it will be possible by changing the clock speed defined at 72Mhz (default) 
Are you considering other options like turning the CC3000 off when not in use or even putting the core to sleep?
Yeah I am implementing all the power savings I can, turn off oled display deep sleep running without the cc3000 on but I need the core to arm to operate for a while until it is triggered to go back into deep sleep so saving 20mah would considerably extend battery life
