Can't connect to cellular

Hi,

I’m having problems connecting my Particle Tachyon to cellular network. I live in Canada. If I run the particle-cell-scan command:

[INFO] 1) Stopping systemd service: particle-tachyon-rild

[OK]   Service stopped

[INFO] 2) Creating PTY pair (null-modem) with socat

[OK]   virtA ready: /tmp/virtA

[INFO]   socat log (so far):

2025/10/18 01:16:05 socat[29267] N PTY is /dev/pts/2

[INFO] 3) Starting particle-tachyon-rild on /tmp/virtA

[OK]   rild started (PID 29271)

[OK]   virtB ready: /tmp/virtB

[INFO] 4) AT -> expect OK

[INFO] 5) AT+COPS? -> expect line starting '+COPS: 0'

[INFO] 6) AT+COPS=? -> wait for OK/ERROR and capture network scan

[OK] AT -> OK

[OK] AT+COPS? -> +COPS: 0

[INFO] AT+COPS=? finalized with OK

Network Scan: +COPS: (1,"Rogers Wireless","ROGERS","302720",12),(1,"Rogers Wireless","ROGERS","302720",7),(1,"Videotron","CANVT","302520",7),(1,"TELUS","TELUS","302220",12),(1,"Videotron","CANVT","302500",7),(1,"TELUS","TELUS","302220",7),(1,"Bell","Bell","302610",7),(1,"Bell","Bell","302610",12),,(0,1,2,3,4),(0,1,2)

[INFO] 7) Starting systemd service: particle-tachyon-rild

[OK]   Service started

[OK]   All requested steps completed.

This should be good news as Telus is one of the supported network. However, if I run journalctl -u particle-tachyon-rild --no-pager , I see the following toward the end

Oct 18 01:17:45 tachyon-9b7dc3eb particle-tachyon-rild[29545]: Command: AT+CEREG?, Response:

Oct 18 01:17:45 tachyon-9b7dc3eb particle-tachyon-rild[29545]: +CEREG: 2,3

Oct 18 01:17:45 tachyon-9b7dc3eb particle-tachyon-rild[29545]:

Oct 18 01:17:45 tachyon-9b7dc3eb particle-tachyon-rild[29545]: OK

Oct 18 01:17:50 tachyon-9b7dc3eb particle-tachyon-rild[29545]: Command: AT+CEREG?, Response:

Oct 18 01:17:50 tachyon-9b7dc3eb particle-tachyon-rild[29545]: +CEREG: 2,3

Oct 18 01:17:50 tachyon-9b7dc3eb particle-tachyon-rild[29545]:

Oct 18 01:17:50 tachyon-9b7dc3eb particle-tachyon-rild[29545]: OK

And my understanding is that +CEREG: 2,3 means denied by network. What should I do?

Hi @technodabbler

Thanks for providing the logs – that’s super helpful. It looks like you’re device should be connecting, so we’ll investigate why that isn’t happening. Hang tight!

Hi,

Does it help if I keep the device on? I’m not sure how much remote checking you can do.

Alex

Hi @technodabbler could you reboot your device and see if connects to cellular?

No luck, here are the debug commands

Leaving it on for 2 hours, it seems to have connected

Cellular

Carrier:Bell

RSRP:-99 dBm

Active ICCID: xyz

Registration state:Registered, Roaming

Access technology:NR5G (5G)

Is it possible that it takes an hour to find cell connections when I turn on the board?
