I think the TOF sensor or maybe 2 TOF sensor along with a light level sensor would work great for this application.
Just measure across the locker at the bottom just about anything put in there will change the distance reading.
And detect light level increases to detect door opening as a 2nd detection method.

Yea no problem. I’ve tested the sensors and they are a good fit for you goal.
I can’t remember if the sensors also output light level readings also but if they did you could use that data to detect open doors if the light levels outside the lockers are always high.
