So, it’s been a couple of years since I last had a chance to play with my Particle devices. But I recently pulled out a Photon to hopefully replace another troublesome development board that I was using in my DIY IoT garage door opener.
My Photon didn’t connect to WiFi immediately, but after banging on it in various ways with hammers DFU, I finally got it updated to the 0.7.0 firmware, and uploaded Ye Olde Blink Sketch as a test.
It said it updated, but it was just the blink of an eye. Something must have gone wrong, yeah? I double-checked everything and re-uploaded.
click, Done! Blink, Blink, Blink.
No, really. What happened to the series of magenta flashes that were the visual equivalent to the old modem connection sounds from my youth? Surely, the update is failing, and I’m only getting a blinking LED because it was part of the firmware update I did earlier… So, I changed the timing of the blinks in order to be able to verify that it was getting the new software.
click, Done! Bliiiink … Bliiiink … Bliiiink.
Wow, that’s great. Good job, Particle !
