Low cost wireless chip

Hi,
I am planning to use photon or electron as gateway for some wireless sensors, what chip and protocoll do you suggest for controlling some sensors with low power requirements?

My sensors should be battery powered and with a medium range at least in an apartment.

Thanks
marco

Check out the Bluz.io and I really like these radios for their low power and up to 1 mile range if you need that.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Something cheaper? I have cost constraints on this projects, I would need a cheap, low power radio if exists

Have you seen mysensors.org? They have thorough descriptions on how to make low power sensor nodes with cheap Arduinos. You can then hook those up to your Particle of choice as a gateway  Depending on what kind of sensors you’re planning on using, you can probably squeeze it below $10 each.
