Code wont compile

My code wont compile for my particle photon and I cant seem to see why as it doesn’t give me errors the standard way but here’s the raw output and I don’t know what to make of it… Can anybody help? I should mention its a cloud compile on particle.build… I also see the couple warnings of variables created not used etc but these areas weren’t changed at all and had previously compiled fine

To my eyes this looks like the most significant warning. It sounds like you are using char where you should be using char*. Could you share the code for your callback function?

You don’t get the usual errors since the problem are not compiler errors but linkage errors.

Your code (or used libraries) appear to be referencing some functions that are nowhere defined.

@ScruffR is there a way to see which library is causing the issue? Cause the weird thing is this has compiled for a couple years now. I made a couple small changes and bam now it won’t compile. I had suspicions of a library issue so I tried removing and re adding the libraries but still no luck.

Sure heres the callback function. I tried commenting out the code in my callback function to see if that caused the issue but it still wont compile. However, I still am interested in if its fixable… the lines in question are essentially taken from the example code of the mqtt library example for a sample callback function then my additions are using the json library to parse my data.

is almost always caused by some code using printf() or other C standard I/O or file system functions like gets(). It can sometimes because a library has code for another platform that does support C standard I/O (stdin, stdout, stderr) that gets picked up in the Particle build.

@rickkas7 so how would I go about tracking this down and fixing it? Im confused by why im having this issue suddenly… I have another project that uses the same libraries and has no issue compiling. the only three libraries are these.

I tried replacing the one wire library with the ds18b20 one to see if it was that but no joy i had this one wire one and was the only library that isnt in other projects. I have the mqtt library and json library in other projects that compile fine?

It could be that you are now targeting a different device OS version which may also require a different compiler that may also react slightly different to some compiler directives in one of the libraries.

ive been on 1.5.2 I believe for a couple of updates to the device now So I don’t think its that I did try changing the device target to some previous versions just in case but that still wont compile

Hi,
without seeing your entire code it’s really hard to guess, troubleshoot. As @rickkas7 suggest I remember from past that I have the same or pretty similar error and comes from my part of code instead of serial.printf(); I had some where in just one line printf(); I couldn’t find the issue so I get thru entire code every line one by one and then finally I realized that is just printf(); instead of serial.printf();

oh my I got so hung up on the fact the error had to be on the backend since it didnt give the error the standard way that I realized I must have accidentally clicked delete or backspace on a sprintf function I had leaving a printf instead… I scoured the code and found it… im sure it was a keyboard bump in a freak way scrolling through cause that isnt even the function I had changed… Which is why I was so confused… Thanks everyone
