The code in the PowerCheck class in this post is a better way to tell if the battery is charging. It has several useful methods including getIsCharging(), getIsPowered(), and getHasBattery().

When is Electron Powered By Battery

This version is much better. It uses the BAT_INT_PC13 interrupt to detect the rapid switching between fast charge and charge done when there is no battery.
