# Red SOS Flashes (+1 solid red) When Trying To Enter Listening Mode On Photon

The firmware running on my Photon appears to be working fine, however when I hold down the SETUP button to try and enter Listening Mode I am getting the red SOS flashes instead of blue blinking. It then automatically resets and my firmware continues to work fine until I try to enter listening mode again. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Thanks!

If you enter [safe mode](https://docs.particle.io/guide/getting-started/modes/photon/#safe-mode), and then try listening mode, does that work for you?

Before seeing your reply I had tried unplugging and restarting my Photon several times, and the problem finally went away (the first couple restarts did not fix it)… so currently I cannot test your idea of entering safe mode first, but the next time the issue pops up I will try this. Thanks!
