Hi all,

I've recently purchased a new Photon 2 and struggling to onboard to the cloud. I have several other Particle devices Photon1, Argons and Xenons - however I can't seem to add this one. I've followed the on-boarding process but no joy. I've used device doctor to reflash, tried other Wifi hotspots and firmware levels. The Photon2 is currently connected via USB to my Windows 11 laptop and using Particle CLI serial monitor. From here I can see it's attempting to connect to the cloud, but fails with no real reason. Logs below.

Thoughts?

Hi Steve-
Oh no, that sounds very frustrating! You've tried a lot of the things I'd usually suggest, can you please try the [Device Doctor](https://docs.particle.io/tools/doctor/) and share the logs?

Thanks!

Hi Colleen,

Thanks for the message.
Using Device Doctor I seem to get less information than the CLI serial monitor. Unsure if it helps, the status led is flashing rapidly light blue. After approx a couple of minutes the led flashes red and resets and starts again - looping the process.
I'm presuming until the Particle cloud acknowledges the device I won't be able to claim it. I did also try using the CLI tool to configure but told its not supported and had to use on web method.

From the CLI tool.

> I have detected a Photon 2 / P2 connected via USB.

! This device cannot be setup via the CLI.
! Please visit [https://setup.particle.io](https://setup.particle.io) to setup your Photon 2 / P2 .

What method were you using for setup?

I'm wondering if [Device Restore](https://docs.particle.io/tools/device-restore/device-restore-usb/) followed by [Web Based Setup](https://setup.particle.io/) might do the trick.

Hey! In the Device Doctor Advanced Options there is now an option to select the Wi-Fi antenna (internal, external, or leave unchanged). This option is only present on the P2 and Photon 2. Swap it to internal and report back!

Hi both, thanks for the feedback.

Firstly, I tried Device Doctor again and selected the "Advanced" option and set the WiFi antenna to internal and tried again. Sadly same results.

I've also tried the Device Restore / Web Based Setup and still no further forward.

Using the Web Based Setup - i've captured the logs.

The process seems to get stuck at the p2-bootloader@5.5.0.bin - eventually the device stops responding and then resets and trys again.

Any more ideas?

BTW, i noticed on the forum another person is getting same problem?

Hi all,

The web set-up got a little further, which I was getting the other day. However it's telling me again I don't have permissions which is a little odd because I'm the admin for the account. I've attached a image.

Hi [@Support](https://community.particle.io/groups/support) - can you jump in here? I think it might be ideal to just send over a new PHN2.

Im having exactly the same problem

When going through [setup.particle.io](http://setup.particle.io)

> We weren't able to assign your device to the product, the problem occurred on our end. Please try again.

The browser console contains errors:

> Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 403 () [https://api.particle.io/v1/devices/](https://api.particle.io/v1/devices/)[device id]

and in the network tab the response of the requests are:

```auto
{
    "error": "Permission Denied",
    "info": "I didn't recognize that device name or ID, try opening https://api.particle.io/v1/devices?access_token=undefined"
}
```

I then tried the device doctor and the device connects to a network but not to the cloud

I'm having the same issue. Just received 2 new photon2's and I can't add them to my account where I already have one Photon2 setup and working. I've tried using CLI, [setup.particle.io](http://setup.particle.io) and the web console and they won't add to my account.

We believe that a portion of a batch of Photon 2 devices was not completely onboarded to the Particle cloud when they were manufactured. Engineering is investigating the scope of the problem, and should be able to fix this from the cloud side, but I don't have an exact timeline for when this will be complete.
