Particle Dev Setup giving this error… Tried on 2 different PC’s and getting the same error! Also refer to the attached SquirrelSetup Log

Try installing [Atom](https://atom.io/), the text editor that Particle Dev is based on and then install the following packages:

- [console-panel](https://atom.io/packages/console-panel)
- [tool-bar](https://atom.io/packages/tool-bar)
- [particle-dev](https://atom.io/packages/particle-dev)
- [particle-dev-cloud-functions](https://atom.io/packages/particle-dev-cloud-functions)
- [particle-dev-cloud-variables](https://atom.io/packages/particle-dev-cloud-variables)

After installation of `particle-dev` package, restart Atom. If you see a red bug icon in status bar, click it, then click `Rebuild Modules` button and `Restart Atom` again.

@ilak2k It looks like you have an out of date version of [node and npm](https://nodejs.org/en/). Try installing a [new version of node](https://nodejs.org/en/download/stable/).

@nrobinson2000 I’ve already installed the Stable Version v5.11.0, from the page you mentioned…

Its node-v5.11.0-x64.msi from the link

Should I have installed the LTS v4.4.3 from this link instead?

In your log it says that you have an old version. Try:

```auto
node -v

```

and

```auto
npm -v

```

To check which versions you have installed. It should say something like `v5.11.0` and `3.8.6`.

If not, try uninstalling node and reinstalling.

Should I set an Environment Variable? Or something like path read/write permissions? I’m the Admin User… That shouldn’t be an issue right? Why is it so complicated to even start?

Since @nrobinson2000 has used the `@` symbol in conjunction with `suda` user name, he'll already have got a ping.

But I guess you've already got the right idea here

Check your PATH whether you have multiple instances of node referenced in there or if you executed the install from within a folder where the old node version would be picked over your intended version.  
Also, if you don't need the old version, save yourself future grief and remove it.

@ScruffR I checked the Environment Variables… And I’ve noticed references of node.js and npm…

Under "User variables for "  
PATH - C:\Users\Lakshmanan Chandran\AppData\Roaming\npm

Under “System variables”  
Path - C:\Program Files\nodejs\

Sorry for having those issues. You can try using a zipped Particle Dev for Windows instead of installer: [https://github.com/spark/particle-dev-app/releases/tag/v1.5.1](https://github.com/spark/particle-dev-app/releases/tag/v1.5.1)

As for Node version Particle Dev and Atom bundle their own and the ones you have are correct. Are you able to install any other Atom packages? This looks like some general issue with Atom permissions.

@suda I’ll try the zip package you’ve shown here… I did install  
console-panel  
tool-bar  
particle-dev-cloud-functions  
particle-dev-cloud-variables

Let me try to install some other package just to confirm… I’ll have to try all these, once I’m back from work… Around 3 hrs from now… Thanks for your help!

@suda I’ve downloaded the zip from the link you mentioned and the particle-dev package installation didn’t happen… Trying to install it throws exactly the same error as before… Tried installing “power-mode” package and it went through… So other packages install just fine… What could be the issue?

Zipped app already contains Particle Dev package (previously called `spark-dev`) and you can see its UI on the left tool bar and status bar.

I did try. It doesn’t compile… I’ve tried copying the blynk.h & cpp files to the same folder as the \*.ino file. I tried including the same set of files in different folders. It just doesn’t take the \*.h files…

Can you help me in this? The Web IDE is not all bad, but the local editors are always much quicker…

You seem to be building the wrong project.  
Look at the file name in the error message.  
BTW, if you want to include files from a subfolder you should also provide a file called `particle.include` that tells the build command which files to upload to the build farm.

Also remove the `examples` folder from the `blynk` folder, just to prevent building any of the `.ino` files in there.
