Sorry for chiming in so late. I can confirm that this is fixed in firmware v1.1.0-rc.1 for Electron 2G (G350) (or if running the patched v1.0.1 firmware which BDub supplied on March 12th)
Running the example code from my original post I now get:

data: {"data":"2 -73",<removed>}
In case somebody is interested, the original (unpatched) v1.0.1 firmware did not fix the problem for me on the Electron 2G (with the G350 modem).
