# Is all Particle software open source?

We want to scale up the asset tracker.  
Are _all_ its software components, including the Particle cloud and all Electron firmware available open source?

Most software is. There are parts they use from other companies that are under a NDA which are included in a compiled form (parts of WICED). The cloud itself is proprietary, but there’s an open-source slimmed down version available. Cloud access is included for life, so if that was a concern, don’t worry 😉
