Desktop IDE - not even the "New Project" works, help?

Background: Windows computer behind a firewall/proxy that works just fine for any other use.

Problem: Click on New Project, accept the defaults, press the blue Create button. The button flickers briefly, but other than that, nothing happens. The window doesn’t go away and no directory is created.

Suggestions?

Also, I have a particle USB connected and blinking blue. The IDE can’t seem to “Identify Device”.

I’m thinking that the application has been sandboxed in some way that is preventing it from doing anything useful.

OK, that problem was simply that I was behind a firewall/proxy. Seems like a problem that could be solved in the dev kit, no? At least a warning would be helpful.
