Blocking diode needed for solar charging Electron?

I have a cheap 1W solar panel that I am using to charge my electron project. It is working well with some random issues. I was wondering if I needed to use a blocking diode on the Vin or if the charging chip has it built in. Thanks

@ParticleD, or @mstanley are you able to assist?

@hammillbr,

I use solar power on many of my Electrons. I don’t use a blocking diode but, I do put a big capacitor between the panel and the Electron to help get the most out of the panel.

Many hits come up on Google. This is just one of them.
Blocking diodes are used to prevent your batteries from discharging backwards through your solar panels at night. It also depends on how your charger works, it might have the diode internally.
